PBL Youth Football Juniors end 2024 season with loss in CIFL playoff semifinals at Momence


MOMENCE – The Paxton-Buckley-Loda Youth Football Juniors ended its 2024 season with a 34-6 loss to Momence in the Central Illinois Football League playoff semifinals on Sunday.

After Momence’s Payton Franc rushed for a 50-yard touchdown to put Momence up 7-0 with 6:55 left in the first quarter, a long pass connection from Pierce Kingren to Brandon Tuell Jr. put the ball in the red zone for PBL. Branson Herges recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown that cut the Panthers’ deficit to 7-6 before the first quarter came to an end.

In the second quarter, Ryan Sutter ran for a 63-yard touchdown with 8:03 left in the second quarter before Khiran Brewer ran for scampered for 55- and 67-yard touchdowns to extend Momence’s lead to 26-6 by halftime. Sutter ran for another touchdown in the third quarter.

With the loss, PBL ended its season with a 4-5 record. Meanwhile, Momence’s Juniors will face Dwight, who defeated Clifton Central 30-6 in the semifinals last Saturday, in the CIFL Super Bowl next Sunday.

The Momence Seniors, who defeated Watseka 34-12 in their semifinal game, will face Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in the Super Bowl. The Clifton Central Mighty Mites, who won 20-13 over Momence in the semifinals, will face GCMS in the championship game.
