Paxton Police Blotter: St. Joseph man arrested for traveling to meet teen for sex



PAXTON — The Paxton Police Department released the following list of recent activity:

Tyler S. McElwee, 35, of St. Joseph

— Tyler S. McElwee, 35, of St. Joseph, was arrested for traveling to meet a minor, solicitation to meet a child, indecent solicitation of a child and sexual exploitation of a child during a traffic stop at 4:02 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Park and Franklin streets by Clara Peterson Elementary School in Paxton. The arrest stemmed from an investigation that began Friday, Nov. 29, when McElwee allegedly began communicating online with a Paxton police officer posing as a teenager. McElwee later arranged to meet the teen in Paxton. The 2015 GMC Sierra pickup truck that he was driving was impounded by police under city ordinance.

— Nathan E. Griffin, 55, of Paxton, was arrested for driving with a revoked driver’s license during a traffic stop around 8:40 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, near the intersection of Dawn Avenue and Vermilion Street on Paxton’s southeast side. The traffic stop was conducted after a Paxton police officer, who was aware from prior contact with Griffin that his license was revoked, saw Griffin driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla, which was impounded by police under city ordinance.

— Storm J. Cochrane, 32, of Paxton, was arrested for violation of the sex offender registry around 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, after Paxton police were called to assist Illinois Department of Corrections parole agents with a status check at his residence in the 300 block of East Larson Street, where it was found he had several unregistered emails. Cochrane was convicted this year in Piatt County of two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse (victim under age 13).
