PAXTON – The Paxton Park District is in the process of fixing broken jet lines for the public swimming pool at Coady Park.
As part of that process, the Paxton Park Board held a special meeting on Wednesday to approve hiring Champaign Pool Pros to perform further diagnostics on the lines at a cost of $1,669.94.
“They’ll diagnose all of the jet lines in the pool and get us an estimate on, hopefully, a formal, final repair on the water loss situation,” said Jordan Chapman, the park district’s recreation director. ““They’re going to give us an estimate on what it will cost to actually fix all of the lines in the pool. We’re losing water from those lines, so it’s probably going to have to be dug up in some capacity.”
Lanz Plumbing of Champaign scoped the jet lines earlier this fall.
“These lines have never been repaired before. It’s the original jets. They were made from aluminum,” Chapman said. “When they pulled the camera out, pieces of the lines came out with it, so they’re corroded.”
Also at Wednesday’s meeting, Kristen Larson of the Paxton City Council attended to ask the park board if there are any changes they would like to make to the agreement about Nelson Field, which is owned by the city but operated by the park district.
According to Larson, the current agreement was written in the 1990’s.
“I feel like it has kind of caused a little bit of a rift because we didn’t know who was responsible for what,” Larson said. “My thought is to lay it out there and have the wording be clear just to make it fair for everybody.”
Chapman and Paxton Park Board Commissioner Matt Quinlan said they have copies of the agreement. Commissioner Kaye Harper asked Larson to email the agreement to other members of the park board so they can review it.
Larson also mentioned that she finished playing in the park district’s pickleball league.
“It was so much fun. It was a blast,” Larson said. “I highly recommend it.”
