GIBSON CITY — Gibson City firefighters responded Friday afternoon to a report of corn smoldering in a grain bin at the One Earth Energy ethanol plant.
Firefighters from the Gibson City Fire Protection District were called at 1:05 p.m. to the plant at 202 N. Jordan Drive on the city’s west edge, where they used about 3,000 gallons of water before clearing the scene at 2:08 p.m., Fire Chief Bruce Kallal said.
No injuries were reported.
Kallal said no fire or smoke was showing upon firefighters’ arrival, but grain inside the bin was smoldering.
“It kind of just got to where (plant personnel) wanted a little more water (on it) than what they could provide,” Kallal said. “So that was what they asked out of us. … We used about 3,000 gallons of water on it to get it cooled down and get it back to where they could work with it again.”
Fifteen firefighters responded with four fire trucks, Kallal said.
