FORREST – The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley seventh-grade girls basketball team won 21-18 over Paxton-Buckley-Loda in the Twin County Conference Tournament third-place game on Wednesday.
Karsen Harden had 10 points for GCMS (10-5) while Brooklyn Johnson had four points, Harper Elder had three points and Emerson Walters and Lexi Farmer each had two points.
“Our girls played hard,” GCMS seventh-grade coach Deanna Leitz said. “We had a bit of a breakdown in the third quarter but stayed composed and played much better in the fourth. No matter records or seeds, it’s always a hard-fought game when we play Paxton.”
For PBL, Katie Piatt had six points while Emmalyn Shumate and Aubrey Dirks had four points apiece and Addy Lindsey and Zahara Perez each had two points.
In the quarterfinals on Oct. 26, PBL won 21-18 as Perez had six points while Piatt, Shumate and Dirks each had four points. Avery Johnson had two points and Addy Lindsey had one point.
In the semifinals on Oct. 28, PBL lost 43-12 to the eventual tournament champion Cissna Park as Shumate and Piatt had four points apiece and Aleiyah Frichtl and Dirks each had two points.
