GCMS MS baseball wins 6-1 over Dee-Mack in regional semifinals


GIBSON CITY – The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Middle School baseball team won 6-1 over Deer Creek-Mackinaw in the IESA Class 2A regional semifinals on Thursday.

After hitting a one-out single in the first inning, Ben Roesch scored a go-ahead run on a base hit by James Huff to give GCMS a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons scored four more runs in the second inning, including an RBI double by Case Jester and a run-scoring single by Isaac Rotramel. In the fourth inning, Bo Grider singled to center field before scoring on a Dayne White groundout.

Jester finished the game hitting 2-for-2 while Grider, Roesch, White, Rotramel and Huff each produced a hit as well for GCMS.

On the mound, White pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The second-seeded Falcons will face No. 5 seed Fisher, which beat top-seeded Bloomington Trinity Lutheran 10-6 in its semifinal game, in the regional championship game at 10 a.m. Saturday at Shepard Park in Normal.
